A. ANSI (The American National Standards Institute) wrote the consensus standard.

Q. How can I tell if I have a certified hard hat? 

A. You will find a sticker inside the hat that says ANSI Z89.1 2003 or 2009 Type I, Class G.

A. Cutdowns are illegal, and inspectors are mostly trying to use good judgement on hard hats. 


Q. Is it OK to drill holes in my hard hat to affix earmuffs?

A. No, drilling holes and other modifications are not allowed on an ANSI Z89.1 hard hat. The Low Pro has a built-in accessory slot for earmuffs.
